The Royal Livingstone, I presume

The Royal Livingstone, I presume

Named after the explorer Dr David Livingstone, the 5-star Royal Livingstone Hotel has one of the most dramatic settings in the world – the banks of the Zambezi River, opposite the mighty Victoria Falls

This unique property in Zambia is the only hotel in this breathtaking national heritage area of outstanding beauty. In fact, Sun International was the first hotel company to be allowed to develop this extraordinary location, representing a blueprint for future development of the region.

The hotel consists of 17 colonial-style buildings with large verandas, set amidst indigenous trees and plants in the 46-hectare Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Wildlife Park. From its exhilarating vantage point, guests can view the region’s wildlife, ranging from elephants, crocodiles and hippos to rare species of birds. No trip to Africa would be complete without a safari, available on elephant and horseback, and there is also a special rhino safari to see this endangered species, of which only five remain in the park.

Social and environmental responsibility are at the very core of the hotel’s operations, and this can be seen everywhere, from the human resources (uniquely for an international hotel brand, 90% of the team are local) through to the supply chain, with most of the hotel’s produce being grown and produced locally, following the introduction of crops and farming techniques by the group.

In addition, the Royal Livingstone Hotel leads over 50 community projects in the region, spanning agriculture, women and girls’ empowerment, health, environment, education, social entrepreneurship and community welfare. It has won numerous awards for its social involvement, including the Imvelo Award for social involvement.

Zambia’s tourist capital the historic town of Livingstone has become one of the best traveling destinations in Africa. Most visitors come for Victoria Falls, but the town has attractions of its own – a genteel colonial history combined with a very African ambience. Livingstone is only a short distance from the falls and is not far from the national parks.
